We hear the call of the prophets in Scripture: “This is what Yahweh asks of you, only this: to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)
We hear the call of the Church: “Action on behalf of justice and participation in the transformation of the world fully appear to us as a constitutive dimension of the preaching of the Gospel.” (1971 Synod of Bishops: Justice in the World)
We hear the call of our mission in the Society of the Holy Child Jesus: “The guiding principles for our apostolic service in each succeeding age are rooted in Cornelia’s understanding of the Incarnation. In Christ we unite ourselves to the whole of humanity especially to the poor and suffering;”
(SHCJ Constitutions10) “In our lives and in every apostolic endeavor, we work for Christian principles of justice, peace and compassion.” (SHCJ Constitutions 9)
In recent years the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus have committed ourselves and the ministries sponsored and endorsed by the Society around the world to
- re-dedicate ourselves to practical solidarity with marginalized people;
- make our lifestyles an alternative to consumerism and environmental destruction;
- respond to the crisis facing our planet;
- oppose forces that exploit and harm children;
- utilize the full potential of our educational tradition to be an agent for change;
- further reconciliation and right relationships wherever possible.
