Graduation Speech
June 17, 1999
Good evening to all. My name is Madeline Reyes and I am here to say a few words about what Holy Child and Cornelia Connelly have taught me.
Cornelia Connelly once said: “Be yourself and make that self all that God wants it to be.” This quote is one of my favorites because it brings out the true me and the real person in everyone else.
Holy Child has taught me that I can be anything I want to be. When I first came here, I was a student with homework problems; I almost never did my homework! Over the past four years, I have changed in such a way that now not only do I always do my homework, I like to do my homework. I have learned that if I set myself a goal, I will be able to achieve it.
To me, “Be yourself and make that self all that God wants it” to be means don’t ever be someone you’re not; be yourself—an individual. Don’t ever be afraid to speak your mind about both positive and negative things. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself, and don’t be afraid to say, “I love you.”
When you believe in yourself and speak from your heart, life is good. These are the things Cornelia Connelly has taught me, and I will keep them in my heart and cherish them always. |
